The design of the bridge was somehow patterned to the Golden Gate Bridge because of the use of cable-stayed concrete girders. It extends to a length of 13.5 km – making it the longest in Asia and third in the world – and stands 8.4 km above the water. It has lights affixed to it which produces probably one of the best night views in town. Construction was completed on 1985, and since then, the Penang Bridge has become an indispensable part of Malaysia’s culture.
